Photo Manipulation and Ethics

A. Some of the main points I read about in the website https://ethicsinediting.wordpress.com were that pictures were being manipulated even in the days where photography had just started.  However back then it took many hours and lots of skill, now days it only takes an application and a few seconds.  Its become incredibly easy for anyone to manipulate photos.  Which brings into question the integrity of the press and how much we can trust that what we see in their photos is real. It is said that it is unethical to manipulate a photo because you're depriving people of deciding how they feel about i for themselves by giving the photo a certain affect.

B. Newspapers like the New York Times and the Washington Post have rules and guidelines for their workers regarding photo manipulation.  Their photographers are not allowed to change any colors from the original scene.  And they must turn in their proofs along with their final photos.

C. I think its okay to change the lighting in a photo if you're changing it because you like it more.  I think its unethical to manipulate peoples bodies and appearances that go in magazines.  Giving women unachievable standards through photoshop makes other people feel worse about themselves and stress to gain something thats impossible.

D. I think the most unethical photos are the ones from the Wisconsin school where they wanted to seem more diverse so they edited a black man into their photo.  Just because they wanted to be perceived a different way they put an entire person into the photo who wasn't there.

E. The photo that I consider the most ethical is the photo where they straighten her teeth.  Because thats not a negative thing maybe she was self-conscious and told them she only wanted to be the cover if they find her teeth.
