The camera
1. The camera obscura effect is when in a completely dark room if a small hole is created in one wall, light is focused through the hole and the outside scene is projected upside down on the opposite wall. The hole acted like a lense leading to the idea of cameras.
2. In the 17th century Isaac Newton and Christian Huygens came to understand optics and how to make high quality glass lenses.
3. In 1827 Joseph Niépce added film, finally creating the first camera which was made up of a glass lense, a dark box, and film.
4. Modern day cameras are still similar to Niépce's in the way the camera works. Light passes through the lense and into the camera, it exposes the film and the end result is a photo.
5. Now days cameras use digital film to capture photos. The digital camera uses a sensor called a CCD and hen the photos are stored onto a reusable computer memory device.
6. Auto mode on a camera will control flash and exposure where as on program mode you can control the flash and a few other camera settings.
7. Portrait mode is used to blur out the background and have one focus the camera will use the fastest available lense setting to do this.
8. Sports mode is used to capture action photos or photos with movement so the camera will use the highest shutter speed possible.
9. In manual mode the photographer must set both the shutter and the aperture mode.
10. You should half press on the trigger before taking a photo because it will tell the camera you're about to take a photo and the camera will focus.
11. The symbol of the arrow in the circle means disabled flash. There are lots of circumstances where you may not want flash the mood of the photo can be more dramatic if you use natural light.
12. The symbol of the arrow with the word auto next to it means Auto-flash. This setting is enabled by default and will fire the flash if the camera thinks it needs more light.
13. With exposure in a photo if there is too much light the photo will become washed out.
14. However if there is not enough light in a photo the picture will be too dark.
15. In photography a stop represents a relative change in the brightness of light.
16. If the planet has two suns then it is one stop brighter.
17. If the planet has four suns then it is two stops brighter.
18. When you use a longer shutter speed on a camera it gives you more light.
19. When using a shorter shutter speed on a camera it gives you less light.
20. The aperture of a camera effects how much light passes through to the film.
21. To have more light in a photo smaller F-stops numbers means a larger opening which means more light.
