Fashion Photography
1. In the dove video they changed her face with photoshop by making her eyes bigger, her nose smaller, her neck longer, her lips bigger, and her face slimer and rounder.
2. In the second video they changed the model with photoshop by getting rid of blemishes, making her lips bigger, making her nose more symmetrical, her eyes bigger, making her legs longer, her neck longer, making her thinner making her butt smaller, evening our her skin tone.
3. In the third video they take a piece of pizza and use photo shop to turn it into a model.
4. I think when you are altering a photo to this extent then no its unethical. People who see this photo are gonna strive to look like the people in these photos and they're unaware that not in the people in the photo look like that.
5. I think there are definitely circumstances where it is more unethical to photoshop. For example if you're shooting for something like a weight loss product, or diet plan. The people using it are gonna wanna look like the model for the brand, but if not even the model looks like what they're portrayed as you're just setting people up for failure.
6. I think its okay if you wanna alter something small like a blemish or fix the lighting. But changing the structure of your face and body and making yourself to look like a completely different person is not okay.
7. I think in fashion photography the goal is to maintain a good image, have nothing bad associated with your brand, they want attractive models, good reviews, good press. Whereas photojournalism you want to capture the truth whether it comes with bad connotations or good ones.
8. Fashion photography definitely strays from reality to create these picture perfect, fairy tale people you strive to look like, making it less ethical. Where as photojournalism what you see in the picture is what you would see in real life, making it more ethical.
9. I think you're showing us these videos to really put into perspective how much altering goes into these photos and what damage it can really do. And to reiterate the importance of being truthful with your photos.
10. I think the reason none of these videos show guys is because, although i'm sure there are some body issues in the guy community, girls tend to take it harder. Guys see a photo of an unrealistically attractive guy and think okay whatever. Girls see a photo of an unrealistically attractive girl and think, why don't I look like her, or how can i look like her?
