Student of the Month Story
who: Andre Kachkine
what: won student of the month
when: the month of March
where: James Bowie Highschool
why: because he is a hard working student with good grades and other achievements
Yesterday morning Mr.Robinson made the long awaited announcement of who the student of the month is for the month of March, the lucky winner was freshman Andre Kachkine. Andre is a very dedicated student who spends much of his time focused on school activities inside, and outside of school.
Andre has a lot to keep up with, being in all pre-AP classes, business electives, speaking four languages, and being on the mountain biking team. " Im in the mountain biking club as well as being on the team. I had to make some adjustments at first, but it's not too difficult to maintain my grades along with biking," said Andre when asked about how he manages his time.
Andre believes that he owes most of his success to his elective teachers because those are the ones he builds the strongest bonds with. "My elective teachers are probably the ones who have helped me the most because they know what i'm interested in and know how to encourage me," claimed Andre.
Andre is thankful that his classmates are kind and respectful to him, and was happy that his friends were proud of him. "I was worried other kids would be mad at me for winning it maybe if they wanted it, but everyone was really nice and proud that I won it," Andre told us.
Andre's plans to apply for the University of Texas once he graduates and is working hard to do everything he can to have an impressive college application. "My parents went to UT and it's pretty much the only college I have ever thought about so I really hope I get in," says Andre.
Andre gave a lot of great advice that he believes will really help other students. He told us, "focusing in class right from the start is very important, if you don't you'll probably fall behind and when you fall behind it's very hard to catch up. Also don't be afraid to ask your teachers for help, I know a lot of people who don't feel comfortable asking their teachers questions when they're confused and then they just never understand the material."
Mr.Robinson believes that he couldn't have picked a better student to be the first freshman student of the month. "Andre goes above and beyond in everything he works on, he works his hardest and he has yet to not impress," principal Robinson told us.
